Black Widow is a Dynacom kit.  I pretty much built it as per the instructions.  It is an all fiberglass rocket.  The body tube, nose cone and the fins are all made of fiberglass material.  This makes it exceptionally strong, but also a tad bit on the heavy side.  It was built in 1998 and as of January 2003 this rocket has flown a total of 24 times.  Six times on an I284 motor, five times on a J350, six times on a J570 and seven times on a K185.  The K185 motors tend to put it up over 9000 feet and are a real joy to watch due to the long burn times.

If I was to do it all over again, I would shorten the internal motor tube slightly in order to gain some additional room for the parachute and recovery harness.  The kit provides very limited space for these items.  Otherwise it's a great kit.  Unfortunately, it is now out-of-production.

Black Widow loses drag race at Brothers Oregon in July 2002

I flew my Black Widow on July 21, 2002 at the Brothers Oregon launch site.  It was a drag race on J350 motors between myself and Team Boltizar.  Obviously I lost!

This flight reached 2354 feet.

Good flight to 2277 feet.

This rocket has flown many times between 1998 and 2002, I just never seemed to take any pictures of it!  In fact it has had so many flights that a few of them were "less than perfect."  Consequently over time as minor repairs were made, the paint scheme changed a little bit.  It now has one red, one white and one blue fin.  It has been a real "work horse" and has held up very well considering the abuse it has seen.

Black Widow launch on K185 at Bonneville Salt Flats in Aug 1998

I flew my Dynacom Black Widow (aka "This End Up") on a K185 to 9324 feet at LDRS-17 in Aug. 1998.

This was at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
