Having trouble viewing the videos?   Here are some suggestions:

To view the videos on this site it is usually best to right-click on the "Play Video" link and then select "Save Target As ..." so that it will store the movie file on your computer.  You can then open the file and view it as a movie once it is completely downloaded.  Doing so will allow it to play cleanly and continuously without all the starts and stops caused by internet traffic.

Videos on this site are generally offered in several different formats.  You can choose the format that works best for your situation.  If you have a broadband connection like DSL or cable modem then you should have no problems downloading the higher resolution formats listed below.   If you have a dial-up connection then you may be able to download some of the videos that have smaller file sizes but even these may take quite a while to download.  The smaller file size videos are the ones presented in Windows Media Player format.  The image that they produce is about 1/4 the size of the high resolution videos.  However, the actual video content is the same in each format.

MPEG2 format is used for the higher resolution versions of the videos on this site.

Unfortunately, not all computers have an MPEG2 codec installed.  If an MPEG2 version of the video is not working for you, then you might need to install a codec for it.  One indication that you probably need the codec is if you can hear the sound but have a blank video image.  You can get a free codec at www.free-codecs.com or by clicking on the direct link below and downloading a free "Stinky's MPEG-2" codec.   After the download you need to unzip the file and run the MPEG-2.EXE file by double clicking on it.  It will install the codec.

QuickTime format is also used for some of the higher resolution versions of the videos on this site.  To view them you will need to have QuickTime installed on your computer. QuickTime is standard on an Apple computer.  It can also be installed on a Windows PC.  A free download of the most recent version of QuickTime for Windows is available at www.apple.com or by clicking on the direct link below.

A nice advantage of viewing the QuickTime version of the videos is that you can single step forward or backwards one frame at a time to examine the video frames individually.

Windows Media Player format is used on this site to provide a lower resolution version of the video in as small a file size as possible while still maintaining good image quality.  The Windows Media Player version is probably viewable on almost any Windows PC without having to worry about installing a special codec.   This is also the version that people using dial-up access may wish to download since the file sizes are much smaller than the higher resolution videos.  You can get a free version from www.microsoft.com or by clicking on the direct link below.

MPEG1 format is used for some of the older videos on this site and simply pre-dates the use of MPEG2.  MPEG1 has a smaller image size than MPEG2 but is supported on almost all computer systems.  MPEG1 is usually just referred to as MPEG.
